Getting Started with Onyx on Android
First, you’ll need to download the Orion push-to-talk app from the Google Play store.
Once you've downloaded the Orion app:
- Launch the Orion app.
- Tap “Log in”
- Log in using your email or login and password
If you’re part of an organization and don’t have an account yet, accept your organization invite and create an account.
(Note: For Android devices, be sure to disable battery optimization before pairing your Onyx.)
Pairing your Onyx with your Android device:
Once you log in, you’ll be brought to the welcome screen.
- Touch User settings on the top left corner of the app, and select 'Onyx'
- Make sure your Onyx is powered on by pressing and holding volume up or down (on the right side of your Onyx) for a few seconds.
- Make sure the colored pattern in the Orion app matches the colored LED light pattern on the face of the Onyx. (Note, you can tap the colored circles in the Orion app to match the LED light pattern of the Onyx you’re trying to pair with.)
- Once you’ve ensured they match, tap “Confirm”.
Joining a Group after you've paired your Onyx:
To learn how Onyx works, join the "Echo Chamber". This will allow you to send a transmission and hear it played back to you.
If you already have other groups in your list, you can tap to join one of those and start talking to other members of that group with Onyx.
Understanding user status and map location:
When you’re in a group, you'll see a list of the group's members below the map.
Rings around member avatars indicate their status:
⃝ Blue - Active: Ready to listen and talk.
⃝ Yellow - Silent: Can't hear or talk to people. If vibration is turned on in a user’s Onyx settings (available to Orion Pro customers), the Onyx will vibrate when anyone is talking.
⃝ Gray - Offline: This indicates a user is either in another group, not in any groups, or completely offline. They won’t be able to hear anyone talking.
(Note: Members may choose to share their location (or not) on the map.)
If the group has any Leaders, a ✦ will appear before their name in the member list. Group Leaders have the ability to configure group settings from within the Orion app, while Basic members do not.
